1. Rotate crankshaft until No. 1 cylinder is at TDC of compression stroke. Make sure that indicator and mark on vibration damper are aligned.
2. Disconnect fuel lines at injection nozzles.
3. Turn cold start device clockwise and insert a block, approximately .59 inch thick, between piston and linkage, Fig. 3.
4. Remove plug bolt from rear of injection pump and install dial indicator, Fig. 4.
5. Loosen injection pump attaching nuts and bracket bolt.
6. Rotate crankshaft 15-20° counterclockwise, then zero the dial indicator.
7. Rotate crankshaft clockwise until No. 1 cylinder is at TDC of compression stroke and note dial indicator reading. Measurement should be .0358-.0382 inch.
8. If reading exceeds specifications, rotate injection pump clockwise until it is within specifications.
9. If reading is below specifications, rotate injection pump counterclockwise until it is within specifications.
10. Torque injection pump attaching nuts to 9-13 ft. lbs. and the bracket bolt to 36-43 ft. lbs.
11. Remove dial indicator and reinstall plug bolt with new washer. Torque plug bolt to 10-14 ft. lbs.
12. Reset cold start device in its original position, then reconnect injection lines. Install injection lines, Fig. 5, in the following sequence: 4, 3, 2, 1.
