The air/fuel ratio is controlled mainly by the richer solenoid valve when cranking the engine. From first fire to start, the mixture ratio is controlled by the richer solenoid valve and vacuum piston. In accordance with elapsed time and warm-up condition of the engine, after the engine starts, then mixture ratio is controlled by the richer solenoid valve and engine speed is controlled by the idle speed control actuator.

THROTTLE POSITIONER
1983-85 models use a throttle positioner to maintain proper positioning of the throttle valve while the engine is cranking. The throttle positioner does not operate after the engine starts.

RICHER SOLENOID VALVE
During engine warm-up, the ECC-controlled richer solenoid valve controls fuel led under the secondary throttle valve, then the air/fuel ratio.

VACUUM PISTON
After the engine starts, the vacuum piston regulates the air/fuel ratio and controls the air which is thinning down the fuel provided to the richer solenoid.

IDLE SPEED CONTROL ACTUATOR
The idle speed control actuator controls throttle valve opening in accordance with engine warm-up condition. The actuator is controlled by the vacuum control modulator.
