Engine Replacement


1. Release fuel system pressure as follows:
a. Disconnect fuel pump relay located above fuse block.
b. Start engine.
c. After engine stalls, crank engine 2 or 3 times.
d. Turn ignition switch Off, then reconnect fuel pump relay.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Scribe hood hinge locations and remove hood.
4. Disconnect or remove all hoses, electrical connectors, accessories, cables and linkages necessary for engine removal.
5. Disconnect both driveshafts from transaxle.
6. Attach suitable lifting equipment to engine.
7. Remove engine mounting bolts, then lift engine and transaxle as an assembly from vehicle.

8. Reverse procedure to install. On 1986-88 models, tighten right hand, left hand and rear engine mount bolts first, then apply engine load to mounting insulators before tightening buffer rod and sub-mounting. Torque bolts in numerical order, Fig. 15, when tightening buffer rod and sub-mounting.
