Engine Assembly

CYLINDER HEAD ASSEMBLY

1. Install valves and valve components. Install outer valve springs with narrow pitch side towards cylinder head.
2. Install camshaft, then the camshaft oil seal. Apply clean engine oil to seal prior to installation.
3. Install hydraulic valve lifters and lifter guide.

4. Install rocker shaft assemblies, then the exhaust manifolds. Torque manifold attaching bolts to specifications in sequence, Fig. 28.




PISTON & ROD ASSEMBLY

1. Assemble pistons, piston pins and connecting rods of designated cylinders, noting the following:
a. Ensure stamped numbers on connecting rod and cap correspond to each cylinder.
b. Apply clean engine oil to piston pin and small end of connecting rod before pressing pin into rod.
2. Install piston rings.

ENGINE ASSEMBLY

1. Install main bearings, Fig. 29, crankshaft and bearing cap. Torque attaching screws to specifications in sequence, Fig. 30, in 2 or 3 steps.

2. Install piston assemblies with rings properly positioned, Fig. 31.
3. Reverse remainder of ``Engine Disassembly'' procedure to complete assembly, noting the following:

a. Torque cylinder head attaching bolts in sequence, Fig. 32 to specifications as illustrated in Fig. 24.
