Engine Replacement
On 1985-88 Maxima models, the engine and transaxle must be removed as an assembly.
1. Release fuel system pressure as follows:
a. Start engine, then disconnect fuel pump electrical connector, located under luggage floor mat.
b. After engine stalls, crank engine 2 or 3 times.
c. Turn ignition switch off, then reconnect fuel pump electrical connector.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Disconnect or remove all hoses, linkages, electrical connectors and accessories necessary for engine removal.
4. Attach suitable lifting equipment to engine and, on 200SX and 300ZX models, support transmission with a suitable jack.
5. Remove engine mounting bolts.
6. On 300ZX models, remove right side exhaust manifold and exhaust connecting tube, then separate engine from transmission and lift engine assembly from vehicle.
7. On Maxima models, carefully lift engine and transaxle assembly from vehicle, then separate transaxle from engine.
