DIGITAL TOUCH ENTRY SYSTEM REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE
APPLIED MODELS: 1984-86 200SX & 1985-88 Maxima with Digital Touch Entry
SERVICE INFORMATION
On Maxima and 200SX models with Digital Touch Entry System, customer concerns of entry system non-operation may be caused by the NORMAL operation of special anti-theft circuitry inside the Digital Touch Entry control unit.
This special anti-theft circuitry is designed to discourage repeated attempts to gain access to the vehicle when an incorrect personal code is entered.
For example: If any combination of keypads are depressed 24 or more times, the anti-theft circuitry will turn the keypad lights/beeper off for 6 seconds. In addition, if any combination of keypads are depressed 80 or more times, the anti-theft circuitry will turn the keypad lights/beeper off for 30 seconds.
The Digital Touch Entry System can be reprogrammed as follows:
1. Do not depress the keypads for AT LEAST 40 SECONDS. After 40 seconds, Press the START/CLEAR keypad.
2. Enter the seven (7) digit "fixed" number. This number is stamped on a plate attached to the Digital Touch Entry control unit. (Refer to appropriate service manual for location of control unit).
3. The keypad should now beep for six (6) seconds. During this time, enter a four (4) to seven (7) digit personal code number. See DIGITAL TOUCH ENTRY SYSTEM, Operating Instructions and Functions, in the EL Section of the Service Manual.
4. After the personal code is entered, wait for a series of short beeps and reenter only the personal code. The door should then unlock.
If the system operates correctly after reprogramming, the customer concern was caused by either tampering or incorrect customer operation/programming. If the system still remains inoperable, refer to the troubleshooting procedure in the appropriate service manual.
