SERVICE INFORMATION

Two different types of exhaust gas sensors, Titania and Zirconia, were used on 1987 Maxima vehicles. As indicated in the following pages of this bulletin, these two types of sensors have different configurations, tightening torques and inspection procedures.

In addition, two Service Manuals are available for 1987 Maximas, each containing the applicable information for the respective model exhaust gas sensor. APPLIED MODEL INFORMATION
NOTE: Some Zirconia type sensors are equipped with a ceramic heater. These heated Zirconia sensors have three wires. All Titania exhaust gas sensors have three wires, therefore, do not rely on the number of wires to determine the type of sensor.

REMOVAL CAUTION: If the exhaust gas sensor is difficult to remove, use Nissan Rust Penetrant, P/N 999MP-A3020, or equivalent, to avoid possible engine damage.
