Cylinder Head Assembly: Service and Repair


REMOVAL

1. Remove timing belt as previously described.
2. Remove breather separator.

3. Loosen cylinder head bolts in sequence, Fig. 4.
4. Remove cylinder head.

INSTALLATION

1. Install cylinder head with new gasket. Do not rotate crankshaft and camshaft separately.

2. Apply engine oil to threaded portion and seat surface of bolts and tighten cylinder head bolts with washers, in sequence, Fig. 5, as follows:
a. Torque all bolts to 22 ft. lbs.
b. Torque all bolts to 76 ft. lbs.
c. Loosen all bolts completely.
d. Torque all bolts to 22 ft. lbs.
e. Torque all bolts to 76 ft. lbs. or, if angle wrench is available, tighten bolts 85-90° clockwise.
3. Ensure No. 1 cylinder is set at TDC on its compression stroke.
4. Install timing belt and adjust belt tension as previously described.
5. Install remaining parts in reverse order of removal.
