Engine Disassembly


1. Remove engine outer components.
2. Place engine on suitable workstand.
3. Drain coolant and engine oil.
4. Remove timing belt as previously described.
5. Remove water pump.
6. Remove oil pan and oil pump as previously described.
7. Remove cylinder head as previously described.
8. Remove pistons.

9. Remove bearing caps and crankshaft, loosening attaching nuts in sequence, Fig. 6.

PISTON & ROD ASSEMBLY

1. Remove piston rings with ring expander.
2. When disassembling piston and connecting rod, heat piston to 140-158°F or use piston pin press stand at room temperature.

CYLINDER HEAD

1. Remove camshaft sprockets.
2. Remove tensioner pulley and rear cover.

3. Remove camshaft bracket, loosening bolts gradually, in sequence, Fig. 7, in two or three steps.
4. Remove front oil seals, then the camshafts.
5. Remove hydraulic valve lifters, noting the following:
a. Do not place hydraulic valve lifters upside down.
b. Do not disassemble hydraulic valve lifter.
c. Tag valve lifters so as not to mix them up.
6. Using suitable tools, disassemble valve mechanism.
7. Using suitable puller, remove valve oil seal.
