REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain coolant and remove upper radiator hose.
3. Remove right side under cover.
4. Remove drive belts and water pump pulley.
5. Scribe alignment mark on crank angle sensor and timing belt cover, then remove crank angle sensor.
6. Support engine with suitable jack and remove engine mount bracket.
7. Remove front upper timing belt cover, then align timing marks on crank pulley sprockets, Fig. 2.
8. Remove side cover from inside right hand wheel house.
9. Remove crankshaft pulley.
10. Remove front lower timing belt cover.
11. Loosen tensioner pulley nut and remove timing belt.
INSTALLATION
1. Install crankshaft sprocket with sprocket plate.
2. Ensure No. 1 cylinder is set at TDC on its compression stroke.
3. Install timing belt, aligning marks on timing belt and sprockets.
4. Loosen tensioner pulley nut.
Fig. 3 Temporarily installing crankshaft pulley bolt. CA16DE engine:
5. On CA16DE engine, temporarily install crankshaft pulley bolt and rotate crankshaft two full turns. Install spacer of suitable thickness to prevent crank pulley bolt damage, Fig. 3.
6. On CA18DE engine, install lower timing belt cover, then install crank pulley with washer. Torque pulley nut to 105-112 ft. lbs., then rotate crankshaft two full turns.
7. On all models, torque tensioner pulley nut to 16-22 ft. lbs.
8. Install timing belt cover(s).
9. Install crankshaft pulley with washer, torquing bolt to 105-112 ft. lbs.
10. Install engine mount bracket.
11. Install crank angle sensor and water pump pulley, aligning scribe marks made during disassembly. Torque crank angle sensor to 5.1-5.8 ft. lbs.
12. Install drive belts and upper radiator hose, then refill coolant.
