This system has a intake manifold port shut valve (power valve) to one side of the intake passage for each cylinder.
At low engine speeds or low engine load conditions, the power valve is closed causing velocity of air in intake passage to increase, promoting vaporization of the fuel and creating a swirl in combustion chamber. Because of this operation, this system tends to increase burning speed of fuel, improve fuel consumption and increase stability in running condition.
At high speed or heavy engine load conditions, the power valve opens, causing an increase in power by improving intake efficiency.
