Throttle Position Switch: Testing and Inspection

1. Turn off engine and disconnect harness connector on carburetor.

2. Connect proper wires between the anti-dieseling solenoid valve harness terminals.

3. Verify that continuity does not exist between the throttle valve switch harness terminals.
4. Start engine and increase engine speed to about 2,000 rpm.
5. At this time, verify that continuity exists between the throttle valve harness terminals.
6. Then, decrease engine speed gradually to below.

Engine speed:
M/T: 1,350 ± 350 rpm
A/T: 1,250 ± 350 rpm

At that point, the circuit should break and cause the ohmmeter to indicate an open circuit.
If incorrect, adjust as follows.
1) Remove carburetor from engine.

CAUTION: Before removing carburetor, drain about one liter (1-1/8 US qt, 7/8 Imp qt) of engine coolant.

2) Open the throttle manually.
3) Then, close the throttle opening manually until the ohmmeter indicates an open circuit.

4) At that point, check clearance "G".

Check clearance "G": 0.37±0.07 mm (0.0146±0.0028 in)

5) If out of specification, adjust clearance "G" by bending plate until the ohmmeter indicates an open circuit.

Adjust clearance "G": 0.37 mm (0.0146 in)
