A/C COMPRESSOR TORQUE TEST AND REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE
AFFECTED VEHICLES: Some 1987-88 Maxima, 300ZX, Van, Stanza Wagon and 200SX vehicles produced prior to February 29, 1988.
SERVICE INFORMATION:
Enclosed with this Technical Bulletin, you will find a computer report that tells which of the affected vehicles are in your dealership new car inventory. These vehicles must have a torque test performed on their A/C compressors. There are two A/C compressor torque test procedures given in this Bulletin, one for use in outside air temperatures above 42~F. and one for use in outside air temperatures below 42~F. Use whichever procedure is appropriate.
If a vehicle's A/C compressor passes the torque test, the vehicle may be retailed witn no further attention to the A/C system. If the A/C compressor does not pass the torque test, then the compressor must be replaced according to the replacement procedure also given in this Bulletin. If an A/C compressor does not pass the torque test and it is not replaced, then the owner may experience early wear and noise problems.
NOTE: In order to avoid an overstock of A/C compressors, please inspect all affected vehicles in your inventory before you order parts.
