Fig. 179 Speed Sensor Voltage Supply Test:
SPEED SENSOR OUTPUT CHECK
1. Remove instrument cluster.
2. Connect a volt meter between terminals #1 and #11. Do not disconnect electrical connector. Refer to Fig. 179.

3. Turn key ON.
Volt meter should read approximately 5 volts.
If volt meter indicates no voltage proceed to "POWER UNIT CHECK".
4. Turn key OFF.
5. Disconnect speedometer cable.
6. Leaving unit plugged into the harness remove the speed sensor.
7. Connect a volt meter between terminals #1 and #12. Refer to Fig. 180.

8. Turn key ON.
9. SLOWLY turn rotor shaft on speed sensor and observe the volt meter.
Replace the speed sensor if volt meter does not deflect 24 times per revolution of the speed sensor. Refer to Fig. 181.

POWER UNIT CHECK
1. Leaving terminals connected, remove power unit. (Located behind the drivers R.H. knee bolster.)
2. Turn key ON.
3. Connect a volt meter to the back side of the plug. Refer to Fig. 182.

4. Check voltage at terminals as shown in Fig. 183.
If OK, proceed to step #4.
If not OK, replace power unit and retest.
5. Turn key OFF.

6. Check voltage at terminals as shown in Fig. 184.
If OK, power unit is OK.
If not OK, replace power unit and retest.
