SERVICE INFORMATION

Some 1989 Maxima SE and GXE vehicles may experience inoperative remote trunk openers. This condition is due to the opener cable not having adequate slack, causing the cancel lever to be rotated into a position in which the trunk lid lock will push it into the "Cancel" position when the trunk is closed.





To correct this condition, check the opener cable slack by lightly pulling the ball on the end of the cable away from the striker and measuring how far the cable protrudes through the cancel lever. The slack should be 0.020-0.059 in. (0.5-1.5 mm) (see drawing). Adjust as necessary. This information is also shown on page BF-9 in the 1989 Maxima Service Manual.


Do not replace parts as a means to correct this condition, as this may lead to repeated incidents and customer dissatisfaction.
