Fig. 9 Camshaft Bracket Bolt Tightening Sequence:

1. Install valve component parts as follows:
a. Always use new valve oil seal.
b. Install valve spring with its narrow pitch side (painted side) toward cylinder head side.
2. Install camshafts, Fig. 8. Exhaust side camshaft has spline for crank angle sensor.
3. Install camshaft brackets. Camshaft bracket number and direction are stamped on camshaft bracket.
4. Apply engine oil to lip of new camshaft oil seal and install seal in place.
5. Torque camshaft bracket bolts, in sequence, Fig. 9, in two or three steps to 6.5-8.7 ft. lbs.
6. Install rear timing cover, tightening attaching bolts to specifications.
7. Install timing belt tensioner, tightening tensioner attaching nut to specifications.
8. Install camshaft sprockets, tightening attaching bolts to specifications. Do not allow camshaft to move while tightening bolts.
9. Adjust timing belt tension, refer to TIMING BELT.
10. Install remaining parts in reverse order of removal.
