SERVICE INFORMATION

Some of the applied models built prior to May 25, 1989 (JAPAN-Built Vehicles) or August 1, 1989 (U.S.-Built Vehicles) may exhibit an exhaust odor which smells of sulfur. To resolve such a customer complaint, perform the following service inspection procedures.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Verify that the following engine control components are properly adjusted, using the Service Manual for specification and adjustment procedures:

^ Idle Speed
^ Throttle Valve Switch
^ AIV Operation
^ CO Inspection

2. If these components are within specification, perform self-diagnosis to verify proper Mixture Ratio Feedback Control (Mode II) and confirm the all-clear code (55) in Mode III. If self-diagnosis codes other than (55) are stored in Mode III, perform the appropriate diagnostic procedure to repair the malfunction.

3. If self-diagnosis indicates proper Mixture Ratio Feedback and engine control components are adjusted and operating properly, replace the AIV Case Assembly with the new part listed below:
