Removal/Installation
On Maxima models, the engine and transaxle must be removed as an assembly.1. Release fuel system pressure as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/RELIEVING FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. On all models, drain engine coolant from cylinder block and radiator.
4. Disconnect or remove all hoses, linkages, electrical connectors and accessories necessary for engine removal.
5. Attach suitable lifting equipment to engine.
6. On 300ZX models, support transmission with a suitable jack.
7. On Maxima models with VE30DE engine, support transaxle with suitable jack.
8. On all models, remove engine mounting bolts.
9. On 1989 300ZX models, remove RH exhaust manifold and exhaust connecting tube, then separate engine from transmission and lift engine assembly from vehicle.
10. On 1990-92 300ZX models, remove front exhaust pipes and propeller shaft, then separate engine from transmission and lift engine assembly from vehicle.
11. On Maxima models with VG30E engine, carefully lift engine and transaxle assembly from vehicle, then separate transaxle from engine.
12. On Maxima models with VE30DE engine, remove engine and transaxle as follows:
a. Remove left and right side rear engine mounts.
b. Remove center crossmember from underneath engine.
c. Slowly lower transaxle jack and remove engine and transaxle from under the vehicle.
13. On all models, Nissan does not provide an installation procedure, reverse procedure to install.

14. On 1989 300ZX models, tighten engine gussets in 6 steps, Fig. 1.
