General Overview - Start Here

Entering On-Board Diagnostics:

PURPOSE

To allow a technician to diagnose and repair the Auto Temp Control HVAC System efficiently.

There are four kinds of self-diagnostic system checks. Each can be accessed by pushing certain switches on the Auto A/C Amplifier (Control Head). Available diagnostic systems are:

Step 1: Monitor diagnosis
Step 2: Actuator test
Step 3: Auxiliary mechanism (temperature trim)
Step 4: Readout of trouble data stored in memory


OPERATION

To enter self-diagnostics, do the following:

- Start engine
- Press AUTO switch. While continuing to press it press the OFF switch. Hold these two switches for at least 5 seconds.
- Stepping from one mode to another is done by pushing the AUTO switch.
- Self-Diagnostics will be cancelled by pushing the OFF button or turning the ignition switch OFF.

NOTE ON "CONSULT" USE

CONSULT is a hand-held tester designed and built for Nissan dealership technicians. You may see references to this tester and it's use when you read the test procedures for this car.

Whenever possible, alternative procedures that do not require the use of CONSULT have been included.
