Date: September 20, 1990
1990 300ZX DRIFTS TO ONE SIDE

APPLIED MODELS: 1990 300ZX (Z32), Non-Turbo.

SERVICE INFORMATION

Some 1990 300ZX vehicles may drift slightly to the right and require slight, but steady, steering correction to maintain a straight line - with or without brakes applied. Use the following procedure to inspect and repair vehicles with this complaint.

NOTE: This bulletin applies only to Non-Turbo vehicles.

INSPECTION/REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Ensure that tires are properly inflated: Front, 33 PSI (cold); Rear, 36 PSI (cold).

2. Drive vehicle on an uncrowned road, if possible, to determine direction and severity of pulling. If uncrowned road is not available, try to drive on both sides of the crown to isolate vehicle effects from road effects.

3. If it is determined that the vehicle consistently drifts to the right, regardless of the road crown, perform a 4-Wheel Alignment utilizing specifications found on the back outer cover of the 1990 300ZX Service Manual. Repair any non-conforming conditions.

4. If the vehicle meets specifications or has been repaired to specifications, and the vehicle still drifts, replace both front tires with new ones (see PARTS INFORMATION on page 2 of this Bulletin).

a. Ensure that the wheels are mounted on the correct side of the vehicle and that the directional arrows on the sidewalls of the tires point in the direction of rotation.
b. To minimize a possible out-of-round condition when mounting new tires, ensure that the white dot on the wheel lines up with the red or white dot on the tire. Then, balance the tires using a dynamic balancer.
c. Ensure that the new tires are correctly inflated: Front, 33 PSI (cold); Rear, 36 PSI (cold).
