Spark Plug: Service and Repair

Removing Balance Tube:





REMOVAL
1. Remove the intake manifold balance tube.
NOTE: The o-rings can be re-used if not damaged upon removal.

Removing Ignition Coils:





2. Disconnect the ignition coil connector.
3. Remove the ignition coil fasteners and remove the coil.
4. Using compressed air, blow out the area at the base of the spark plug to remove any debris USE SAFETY GLASSES.
5. Using a 5/8" (16mm) flex socket and extension, remove the spark plugs (counterclockwise rotation).

INSTALLATION
1. Using a suitable tool, check and adjust the spark plug gap.
ELECTRODE GAP
0.039 - 0.043 in. (1.0 - 1.1 mm)
2. Using a suitable rubber hose or designated tool, start the spark plugs by hand (clockwise rotation).
3. Tighten and torque the spark plugs.
SPARK PLUG TORQUE
14 - 22 ft. lbs. (20 - 29 N-m / 2.0 - 3.0 kg-m)
4. Apply a small amount of di-electric compound to the inside of the ignition coil boots.
5. Reinstall the ignition coil and tighten the fasteners.
6. Reinstall the balance tube and tighten the fasteners.
