SERVICE INFORMATION
Some of the Applied Models listed above may fail to start if the ECU connector is not fully seated in the ECU. The connector may be misaligned and cocked to one side with the center bolt torqued down. The plastic encasement where the connector plugs in, or the connector itself, may be slightly warped causing a misalignment during connector installation. (See illustrations)
When installing the ECU connector, ensure that it is properly aligned and firmly seated by hand, then install and torque the center bolt. When properly seated, the top of the connector should not extend more than 7 mm beyond the ECU case as shown in the illustration.
NOTE:
The center bolt can be properly torqued and the malfunction can still occur if the ECU connector is not properly aligned.
On some models, a red plastic projection will be lined up with the connector face when the securing bolt is properly torqued. Please refer to illustration.
Caution:
Before connecting or disconnecting the ECU harness connector to or from the ECU, be sure to turn the ignition switch "OFF" and disconnect the negative battery terminal to avoid damaging the ECU (battery voltage is applied to the ECU even if the ignition switch is "OFF").
