Modification:Cam Spring Change For Oil Pump Noise

APPLIED MODELS: 1989 & 1990 Maxima, 1990 Axxess, 1990 Stanza, 1990 Pulsar NX with F02A Automatic Transaxle

APPLIED UNIT NUMBERS: Prior to A512760 & 4500846

APPLIED DATE: May 20, 1989 (Unit Production)

In some F02A automatic transaxles used in the Applied Vehicles, abnormal noise may be heard before the transaxle reaches operating temperature. This noise may occur when the oil pump sucks in air due to inclining transaxle oil level during vehicle acceleration. The air becomes compressed, then rapidly expands at the oil pump outlet port resulting in a cavitation effect that could result in an abnormal noise from this area.

To eliminate this noise, the oil pump cam ring shape has been modified to increase inlet and outlet port areas. In line with this, the return spring force has been changed to decrease hydraulic pressure.
