SERVICE INFORMATION:


On some 1990 300ZX vehicles, customers may complain of either water entering the vehicle in the footwell area or an unpleasant odor emiting from the air conditioning unit.


This incident occurs when the vehicle is parked under trees and leaves fall through the cowl air intake ducts and enter into the evaporator assembly. This debris causes a blockage in the evaporator drain hose, resulting in water escaping from the evaporator, into the footwell area of the passenger compartment. In addition, the debris can cause an odor to be generated by the decomposing vegetation.


SERVICE PROCEDURE:


Remove the passenger and driver's side cowl grilles and remove any debris present. If debris has entered into the evaporator assembly, it will be necessary to discharge the system and remove the evaporator. Check for any leaves or matter in the evaporator and clean the drain hose of debris. Replace the cowl grilles with the new countermeasure parts listed below. If it was necessary to discharge the system and remove the evaporator, reinstall the evaporator and drainhose, then evacuate and charge the A/C system.
