C.Wire Harness Routing and Connections
FIGURE 6:
C. WIRE HARNESS ROUTING AND CONNECTIONS
1. Lay out the wiring harness. Remove any tangles and separate the single BLACK trunkswitch wire. Plug the large connector into the electronic module and lay the harness in as shown in figure 6. Route all but the single BLACK trunkswitch wire under the carpet along the underseat crossmember and forward along the door sill to the kick panel area.
2. Connect the two and four wire branches as follows:
GRAY .. Route the GRAY VSS wire back down along the door sill to the protective harness cover. Remove the harness cover and unwrap 3" of tape on the vehicle harness. Locate the RED/WHITE doorswitch wire. (There are four RED/WHITE wires in the bundle, three thin wires and one thick wire. The doorswitch is one of the three thin wires.) Cut the gray VSS wire to length and connect with a BM scotchlok to one of the thin RED/WHITE wires. Touch a grounded test lamp to the metal element of the scotchlok and depress the doorswitch. If the test lamp does not light, this is not the correct wire. Remove the scotchlok, wrap the wire with electrical tape and select another RED/WHITE wire.
GREEN ... Ground the terminal with the grounding screw behind the left kick panel.
Route the remaining wires (except the BLACK hoodswitch wire) to the undercolumn area.
RED ... Locate the 11-pin connector (E5) at the base of the combination lighting switch. Connect with a BLUE scotchlok to the RED wire.
YELLOW ... On the same 11-pin connector (E5) connect with a BLUE scotchlok to the
RED/BLUE clearance light wire.
ORANGE... Locate the 8-pin connector (E7) under the wiper controls. Connect with a RED
scotchlok to the PINK washer wire.
DARK GREEN/BLACK...Locate the horn switch connector (E4). Connect with a RED scotchlok to the GREEN/WHITE horn wire.
FIGURE 7:
3. Route the BLACK hoodswitch wire into the engine compartment through the grommet shown in figure 7. From the engine compartment, poke a long thin screwdriver through the hole in the bulkhead to puncture the padded rubber mat. Attach the black wire to a stiff lead wire with electrical tape. From the passenger compartment, feed the lead wire out the hole into the engine compartment. Plug into the hoodswitch. Withdraw the excess wire back into the passenger compartment. Seal the rubber grommet with black RTV.
4. The BLACK trunkswitch wire is not needed. Cut the BLACK wire about 1" from the control module and wrap the exposed end with electrical tape.
5. Plug the status monitor cable into the 5-pin connector on the main VSS harness.
6. Secure all wires out of sight and clear of the pedals and other moving parts with the wire-ties provided. Bundle all excess wire behind the kick panel.
D. CHECK OUT THE INSTALLATION AS SHOWN IN THE INSTALLATION CHECK OUT SECTION.
