Ignition Timing: Adjustments

1. Start the engine and warm it up until the water temperature indicator points to the middle of the gauge.
2. Operate the engine at 2000 rpm for 2 minutes under no load.
3. Race the engine 2 or 3 times under no load, then run the engine at idle speed.

Ignition Timing Marks:

4. Check the ignition timing:
Timing should be 15° ± 2° BTDC. If not proceed to step 5.
5. Turn the engine off.

6. Disconnect the throttle sensor connector (located on the throttle chamber).
7. Start the engine and warm it up until the water temperature indicator points to the middle of the gauge.
8. Idle the engine and adjust the ignition to 15° BTDC timing by turning the distributor after loosening the securing bolt.
9. Turn the engine off.
10. Reconnect the throttle sensor connector.
