Trunk Compartment Repair

During Operation 5 corrosion repair, all spot welds are drilled out from mating panels such as the door pillar, quarter panel and parcel shelf to assist in the removal of the wheel house.

Installation of the replacement part requires as much of the original weld intact as possible to insure proper mating of the components. In cases where plug welding or spot welding is not possible, MIG seam welds should be performed.

CAUTION:
Make sure you do not skip any spot welds. Poor or missing welds will cause problems and may affect the quality of the final repair. Always check all weld locations for quality and completeness.

Prior to the installation of the inner wheel house on the Maxima, add seam welds on the trunk lid hinge bracket located on the left rear inner wheel house. This will replace two spot welds on the parcel shelf that were drilled out during the removal process and ensure proper trunk lid latching. MIG seam weld sections should be 10 mm on each corner as shown in Figure 11 (total of four places).

After installation of the parcel shelf panel and wheel house, check all weld locations between the parcel shelf panel and inner wheel house (top panel and side panel). Missing welds will cause inadequate trunk lid bracket support and will result in a trunk lid that is hard to close.
