Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

General Information

APPLIED MODELS: All SRS-equipped models.

SERVICE INFORMATION:

This Technical Bulletin clarifies the diagnostic procedures for Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) equipped vehicles.

^ These procedures should be used in conjunction with the existing Service Manuals.

^ There are two (2) ways to perform self diagnosis on an SRS vehicle, using either CONSULT or the vehicle On-board Self Diagnosis.

^ Do not switch between CONSULT Self Diagnosis and On-board Self Diagnosis without completing all the steps listed for each type of diagnosis.

^ Do not use any test equipment such as a test lamp or Volt Ohmmeter, etc. to check the "SRS" Air Bag Harness and connectors. (The SRS connectors and harness have yellow outer insulation for easy identification.)

^ Do not attempt to clean, repair, splice, or modify the "SRS" Air Bag wiring harness. If the harness is damaged, replace it with a new one.

^ Make sure all ground connections for the system are clean and tight.

^ Check connectors for poor connections. Inspect the SRS harness for binding, connectors for damage, and terminals for deformities.

^ Inspect the vehicle for damage which may be the result of a prior accident.

CAUTION:
Before servicing an SRS system component, turn the ignition switch "OFF", disconnect battery ground cable and wait for at least 10 minutes before proceeding.
