2. Remove the following trim panels: (figure 1)

- Left door sill protector
- Left kick panel
- Undercolumn panel

3. Installing The Status Monitor Panel

NOTE: An empty switch blank must be located for the status monitor. Two possible sites are located on the dash to the left of the steering column or on the center console. If neither of these are available see "POD MOUNTING" instructions. If only one empty switch blank is found and fog lights are also being installed, save the blank for the fog light switch and mount the VSS in a pod.

DASH MOUNTING Loosen the left dash panel. Push out the switch blank cover from behind. Feed the cable down through the opening and snap the monitor into place. BEING CAREFUL TO ALIGN IT CORRECTLY, AND SMOOTHING FROM THE CENTER OUT, apply the status monitor overlay. Peel off the protective film.

CONSOLE MOUNTING Remove the mounting screws and lift the center console. Push out the switch blank cover from behind. Feed the cable down through the hole and snap the monitor into place with the top towards the front of the vehicle. Route the cable under the carpet to the electronic module.

FIGURE 2:

POD MOUNTING (figure 2) A switch mounting pod, NISSAN P/N 999M2-K7000, must be installed in the glove box to hold the status monitor. Remove the glove box. Hold the pod in position as shown and mark the two mounting hole locations. Drill two 5/32" mounting holes. On the centerline between the mounting holes, 1/2" behind the holes, drill two overlapping 1/2" holes to create a 15/16" passage for the status monitor cable connector. Feed the cable through the pod and the connector hole and snap the status monitor into place. Mount the pod inside the glove box with the screws, washers and nuts provided. BEING CAREFUL TO ALIGN IT CORRECTLY, AND SMOOTHING FROM THE CENTER OUT, apply the status monitor overlay. Peel off the protective film. Route the cable over the radio to the steering column and replace the glove box.

4. Installing The Electronic Module (figure 3 & 4))

Place the module mounting plate on the carpet under the drivers seat in the location shown. Using the plate as a template cut a three sided flap in the carpet and padding. Remove the padding only. Place the plate on the floor and mark the location of the hole shown. Drill a 3/16" hole, remove any burrs and apply NISSAN RUST PREVENTATIVE, P/N 999MP-A6000. Apply the double sided tape to the bottom of the mounting plate. Do riot touch the adhesive surface. Place the plate on the floor with the hole shown in figure 4 over the hole in the floorpan and press firmly. Fasten the mounting plate with the sheet metal screw provided. Attach the electronic module to the mounting plate with the four black screws. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN OR STRIP THE THREADS.
