Removal/Installation

REMOVAL
1. After removal of oil pan and cylinder head, remove connecting rod bearing nuts.

CAUTION: If a ring ledge exists at top of cylinder bore, a ridge reamer may have to be used in order to allow pistons to be removed.

2. Remove piston from block by pushing it out through the top of the cylinder bore.
3. Repeat step 2 for each piston being removed.

INSTALLATION

Rod Bearing Oil Hole Alignment:





CAUTION: Install bearings so that oil hole in connecting rod aligns with oil hole of bearing.

1. Install connecting rod bearings in connecting rods and connecting rod caps.

Piston Installation:





CAUTION: Confirm that correct bearings are used. Be careful not to scratch cylinder wall by connecting rod. Arrange so that front mark on piston head faces toward front of engine.

2. Install pistons with connecting rods into corresponding cylinders with Tool# EM03470000 or equivalent.
6. Install connecting rod bearing caps.

Angle Torque Of Rod Bearing Nuts:





3. Tighten connecting rod bearing cap nuts to the specified torque.
First, torque nuts to: 14 to 16 N-m (10 to 12 ft.lb.)

Then, tighten nuts 60 to 65 degrees clockwise with an angle wrench, or if an angle wrench is not available, tighten them to: 38 to 44 N-m (28 to 33 ft.lb.)
