Disassembly
Placement On Engine Stand:
1. Place engine on a work stand.
2. Drain oil.
Oil Pan Removal:
CAUTION: Do not drive seal cutter into oil pump or rear oil seal retainer portion, or aluminum mating face will be damaged. Do not insert screwdriver, or oil pan flange will be deformed.
3. Remove oil pan bolts. Using seal cutter, remove oil pan.
4. Remove water pump bolts. Remove water pump.
5. Remove timing chain.
Bolt Removal Sequence - Cylinder Head:
CAUTION: Head warpage or cracking could result from removing in incorrect order.
Cylinder head bolts should be loosened in two or three steps.
6. Remove cylinder head.
7. Remove pistons. Service and Repair
Measuring Crankshaft End Play:
8. Measure crankshaft end play.
Standard: 0.05 - 0.18 mm (0.0020 - 0.0071 in)
Limit: 0.3 mm (0.012 in)
Loosening Sequence - Main Bearing Beam:
9. Loosen main bearing cap bolts in two or three steps as shown in image.
10. Remove main bearing beam and crankshaft.
