Using HICAS Warning Light

1. Turn ignition switch to Off position.
2. Place shift lever in Park or Neutral position on models with automatic transmissions ot Neutral position on models with manual transmissions.
3. Turn ignition switch to On position and immediately start engine.
4. Turn steering wheel from left to right at least 20° from the neutral position five times or more then depress brake pedal at least five times within 10 seconds after ignition switch has been turned on.
5. Enter self diagnosis items as follows:
a. Depress and release foot brake pedal.
b. Turn steering wheel from left to right at lease 20° from the neutral position.
c. On models w/manual transmission, depress clutch pedal and move gear shift lever to any position other than Neutral and return to Neutral, then release clutch pedal.
d. On models w/automatic transmissions, disengage and engage parking brake lever, move shift lever to any position other than Neutral or Park, then return lever to Park position.
e. On all models, move car at least 10 feet forward and proceed at an indicated speed of at least 1 mph in self diagnosis mode.
6. If fail-safe system was in operation when ignition was turned off for the last time, fail-safe items will be displayed in numerical order as shown in Fig. 17. After all items are shown, display will repeat again.
7. If fail-safe system was not in operation when ignition was turned off for the last time, display will show self-diagnosis results in numerical order as shown in Fig. 19. After all self-diagnosis results are shown, display will repeat again.
8. If the HICAS system is operating normally then HICAS warning lamp will flash every .25 seconds.
