SERVICE INFORMATION:

Complaints of clutch judder or clutch slippage on applied vehicles produced before the abovelisted V.I.N.'s may be related to excessive grease from the main shaft splines contaminating the clutch disc, clutch cover, and flywheel.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Inspect the clutch disc, clutch cover, and flywheel for signs of excessive grease.
NOTE: The proper amount of grease on the shaft is 0.40 - 0.60 grains.

Check the inside of the bell housing, around the clutch disc, for grease thrown from the clutch system. If no signs of grease are noticed, inspect the clutch system for other causes of the incident.

2. If signs of grease contamination are found, clean excessive grease from the main shaft and clutch components. Replace the clutch disc.

3. Inspect the clutch cover and flywheel for discoloration, burn spots and excessive runout or deformation [see appropriate Service Manual for procedures]. Repair or replace, as required.
