Deployment and Disposal Procedures

Before scrapping an airbag module or a vehicle equipped with an airbag, airbag module must be deployed prior to disposal. Prior to deploying an airbag module, note the following precautions:
1. When deploying airbag, ensure vehicle is empty.
2. Use care not to inhale gas produced by airbag deployment.
3. Due to heat, do not attempt to service a deployed airbag for 30 minutes after deployment.
4. Never attempt to disassemble an airbag module.
5. Never reuse an airbag module.

DEPLOYMENT TOOL CHECK

1. Locate a battery approximately 16 feet away from vehicle.
2. Connect deployment tool No. J38381 to battery and ensure that red light illuminates.
3. Connect deployment tool male and female check connectors.
4. Push deployment tool switch to On to ensure green light illuminates. If green light does not illuminate, replace deployment tool.


DEPLOYING AIRBAG MODULE

1. Locate a battery approximately 16 feet away from vehicle.
2. Connect deployment tool No. J38381 to battery and ensure that red light illuminates.
3. Connect deployment tool male and female check connectors.
4. Push deployment tool switch to On to ensure green light illuminates. If green light does not illuminate, replace deployment tool.
