A/C INSTALLATION ON 240SX HICAS VEHICLES


APPLIED MODEL: 1992 240SX with HICAS

SERVICE INFORMATION


During A/C installation on 1992 240SX vehicles with HICAS steering, some difficulty may be experienced removing and reinstalling the power steering belt when following the installation instructions for 240SX vehicles. The procedure describes the exceptions to the A/C instructions when they are applied to HICAS-equipped vehicles.

SERVICE PROCEDURE





Follow the A/C installation instructions for the 240SX and make the following exceptions for HICAS steering vehicles.


When removing the power steering belt:

1. Remove the power steering belt adjuster bolt.


2. If the pivot bolt is not aligned with the hole in the power steering pump pulley, rotate the crankshaft bolt CLOCKWISE with a 27 mm wrench to align the hole with the pivot bolt.
3. Loosen the pivot bolt.
4. Loosen the two power steering pump adjuster blocks.
5. Rotate the pump downward to loosen the belt.

When reinstalling the power steering belt:

1. Reinstall the belt and make sure the grooves are aligned in the pulleys.
2. Rotate the power steering pump pulley so the hole in the pulley is aligned with the pivot bolt.
3. Rotate the pump upward to tighten the belt.
4. Tighten the front adjuster block nut so the adjuster block is lined up to reinstall the adjuster bolt.
5. Reinstall the adjuster bolt into the adjuster block. Loosen the adjuster block nut again.
6. Tighten the belt to specification with the adjuster bolt. (See Service Manual for belt deflection specification.)
7. Tighten the pivot bolt and the two adjuster blocks to specification.
