Replacement Procedure For A/C Compressor Bracket

1. Raise the vehicle, using a jack; then, jack stands - or, use an appropriate hoist.
2. Remove negative (-) battery cable.
3. [VEHICLES WITHOUT ABS] Locate the radiator overflow container and remove the fastener securing it to the side of the engine compartment. Move the container out of its retainer, but do not disconnect its hose. Set the container off to the side.

[VEHICLES WITH ABS] On these vehicles, the ABS pressure control unit is located in place of the radiator overflow tank. Do not attempt to move this control unit. Access to loosen the 12 mm bolt which secures the idler tensioner pulley is diminished due to this ABS unit

(Figure 1).

If you are not able to easily release the bolt with a conventional wrench, a service tool may be fabricated, using the following dimensions (Figure 2):

4. Using a 12 mm socket, loosen the idler tensioner pulley bolt and lift the air conditioner belt off the air conditioner compressor pulley.

5. From beneath the car, remove the plastic right hand (passenger) side engine splash shield.
6. Using a 12 mm socket, remove the alternator adjusting bolts.
7. Disconnect the electrical connector from the oil pressure switch.
8. Remove the three (3) alternator mounting bolts and carefully suspend the alternator from the undercarriage by utilizing a length of "mechanic's wire."

NOTE: Do not suspend the alternator by its wire harness.

9. From underneath the car, remove the two (2) compressor bolts with a 12 mm socket.
10. Disconnect the electrical connector for the A/C compressor clutch.
11. From above, remove the two (2) upper compressor bolts, using a 12 mm socket.
12. Remove and set aside the A/C compressor; tie-wrap the A/C hose in such a way that the A/C assembly is carefully suspended from the radiator fan support.

NOTE: Do not disconnect the air conditioning hoses from the compressor. It is unnecessary and will cause additional work.

13. From above, inside the engine compartment, remove the two (2) top compressor mounting bracket bolts.
14. From underneath the car, remove the three (3) bottom compressor mounting bracket bolts.
15. Replace the the A/C compressor mounting bracket with P/N 11910-97E00.
