Power Valve Control System
Power Valve Control Inputs And Outputs:
PURPOSE
To provide more power and better driveability during all engine speeds.
Power Valve:
LOCATION
Integrated with the intake collector.
Power Valve System Operation:
OPERATION
The Power Valve System gives the engine more power and better driveability over a wide range of engine speeds by allowing the engine two have "two" intake systems; a short set of runners for high speed power and a long set for low end power.
When the Power Valve is "ON", the effective length of the intake runner is equal to the entire length of the intake manifold (from throttle plate to intake valve). This lengthened intake runner gives better low speed performance.
When the Power Valve is "OFF", the effective length of the intake runner is cut in half. This shortened intake runner gives better high speed performance
Fig. 145 Vacuum Solenoid:
POWER VALVE CONTROL SOLENOID
The ECM supplies the ground circuit to the solenoid. When the solenoid is energized a plunger is pulled, redirecting vacuum from the source and vent port to the source and valve port allowing vacuum to be applied to the power valve diaphragm.
