To repair the SRS Airbag, perform the following steps.
1. Check the control unit as follows:
a. When Consult tool is available, connect consult tool and then erase control unit memory. Memory may not be cleared. If the Airbag warning lamp comes on continuously, replace the control unit.
b. When Consult tool is not available, check Airbag warning lamp and repeat the following check twice: Turn drivers door switch On and Off five times within seven seconds after ignition switch is turned on. If the Airbag warning lamp comes on continuously, replace the control unit.
2. Remove the deployed airbag module.
3. Check SRS components using the table shown in Fig. 21. If the SRS components are showing any visible damage such as dents, cracks or deformities, replace them with new components.
4. Conduct self diagnosis using consult tool or Airbag warning lamp to ensure entire SRS operates properly, except open circuit to airbag module.
5. Install new airbag module.
