Air Regulator Control System

Idle Air Control Valve (IACV)-Air Regulator Control:

PURPOSE
The Air Regulator Control System allows the ECM to control the power circuit of the Air Regulator.

OPERATION
The ECM supplies the ground circuit for the fuel pump relay for a few seconds after the ignition switch is turned on. The grounded fuel pump relay will then power the Air Regulator. If the ECM receives a 1° signal from the crank angle sensor, indicating the engine is on or starting, it continuously supplies the circuit.

The ECM will control the Air Regulator circuit:

^ for 5 seconds after the ignition switch is "on"
^ while the engine is cranking
^ during engine warm-up

If the 1° signal is not present, indicating a stalled engine, the ECM does not supply the ground circuit thereby preventing excessive battery discharge.
