Fig. 1 Measuring Rod Strokes:

CONSULT TOOL
1. Have an assistant inside vehicle then raise and support vehicle in such a way to allow all four wheel to spin freely.
2. Connect consult tool to diagnostic connector and start engine.
3. Tough START on consult tool display.
4. Touch HICAS, ACTIVE TEST and SIMULATED DRIVE in that order.
5. Touch START when MAIN SIGNALS displayed is reversed.
6. Touch START. After simulated drive condition has continued for five minutes, it will automatically cancel and Consult tool will then show TEST IS INTERRUPTED TO AVOID OIL TEMP. RISE display. To cancel this mode during self diagnosis, touch CANCEL.
7. Operate engine at speeds greater than 2000 RPM and turn steering wheel 180° in one direction from the neutral position.
8. Measure extension value of one power cylinder rod and retraction value of the other, Fig. 1.
9. Turn steering wheel 180° in opposite direction from the neutral position and measure extension and retraction of power cylinder rod.
10. Determine strokes of respective power cylinder by adding measured extension and retraction values.
11. Measure rod strokes in as short a period of time as possible.
12. Specification for when steering wheel is turned to the right or left is 0.12 inch, with a total stroke of 0.24 inch.

HICAS WARNING LIGHT
1. Have an assistant inside vehicle then raise and support vehicle in such a way to allow all four wheel to spin freely.
2. Set HICAS system in self diagnosis as follows:
a. Turn ignition switch to Off position.
b. Position shift lever in Park or Neutral position on models with automatic transmission or Neutral on models with manual transmissions.
c. Turn ignition switch to On position.
d. Immediately start engine.
e. Turn steering wheel from left to right at least 20° from the neutral position five times or more then depress foot brake pedal at least five times within 10 seconds after ignition switch has been turned On.

Do not depress foot brake pedal during operation check, or operation will stop.
3. Place steering wheel to a point approximately 10° from the neutral position and check to ensure rear wheels turn to the left and right alternately.
4. Operate engine at speeds greater than 2000 RPM and turn steering wheel 180° in one direction from the neutral position.
5. Measure extension value of one power cylinder rod and retraction value of the other, Fig. 1.
6. Turn steering wheel 180° in opposite direction from the neutral position and measure extension and retraction of power cylinder rod.
7. Determine strokes of respective power cylinder by adding measured extension and retraction values.
8. Measure rod strokes in as short a period of time as possible.
9. Specification for when steering wheel is turned to the right or left is 0.12 inch, with a total stroke of 0.24 inch.
