Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems: Description and Operation
Fig. 10 Anti-Lock Brakes System (ABS):
DESCRIPTION
Anti-Lock Brake systems use a control unit, hydraulic actuator and wheel speed sensors to control brake fluid pressure and prevent wheel lock during severe braking conditions. With this system, directional stability is improved and steerability maintained even when panic braking on wet, sandy, snowy or icy road conditions.
SELF DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION
When a problem occurs in the ABS system, a warning light will flash on the instrument panel. To activate ABS Self-Diagnosis, ground the self diagnosis (check) terminal located on the data link connector. Refer to Self-Diagnostic Procedures. Testing and Inspection
The location of the malfunction is indicated by the number ABS warning light flashes. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code Charts for warning lamp flash code identification. Testing and Inspection
