Power Steering Pressure Switch: Description and Operation

Power Steering Load Switch Location:

PURPOSE
Closes when power steering pump increases to inform the ECM that extra load is being placed on the engine.

LOCATION
On the power high pressure line, R.R. corner of the engine compartment.

OPERATION
The power steering load sensor is mounted in the power steering high-pressure line. It signals the ECM when the pressure increases (indicating extra engine load). The ECM can then compensate for the load by sending a signal to the Idle Air Control-Auxiliary Air Control (IACV-ACC) Valve.
