Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Service Procedure

1. Record the radio presets. Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.

2. Unplug the engine control harness from the engine coolant temperature sensor (see Figure 1).

3. Cut the coolant temperature sensor connector off the engine control harness. Cut just behind the connector boot (see Figure 2).

4. Remove 8 mm of insulation from both coolant temperature sensor wires.

5. Connect and crimp the cut wires from the engine control harness to the adhesive-coated butt connectors on the C/M sub-harness "A" (see Figure 3). The polarity of the two wires is not important.

6. Heat the butt connectors with a heat gun until the adhesive flows from the connector ends.

7. Connect the C/M sub-harness connector "B" to the engine coolant temperature sensor (see Figure 4).

8. Connect the altitude switch connector to the C/M sub-harness connector "C".

9. If equipped, disconnect the bracket for the automatic speed control device (ASCD) actuator from the bulkhead (see Figure 5).

10. Install the brake booster tube protector on the brake tube with the two narrow wire tie wraps. Remove the original protector if necessary.

11. Install the altitude switch bracket together with the ASCD actuator (if equipped) on the bulkhead as shown.

12. Install the altitude switch on the bracket. Make sure the altitude switch air hole points down.

13. Place the C/M sub-harness under the engine control harness. Attach the two together with the large wire tie wraps (see Figure 6).

14. Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Reset the clock and the radio presets.

15. Start the engine and monitor the coolant temperature with CONSULT. Verify a gradual increase in temperature.
