Disassembly, Inspection and Assembly








CAUTION:
^ When installing camshafts, chain tensioners, oil seals, or other sliding parts, lubricate contacting surfaces with new engine oil.
^ When tightening cylinder head bolts, camshaft sprocket bolts, crankshaft pulley bolt and camshaft bracket bolts, lubricate bolt threads and seat surfaces with new engine oil.
^ Attach tags to valve lifters so as not to mix them up.

NOTE: Apply paint to camshaft and idler sprockets for alignment during installation.

DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove intake manifold, collector assembly and exhaust manifold.





2. Remove valve components with valve spring compressor kit tool No. J39773, or equivalent.
3. Remove valve oil seal with a valve oil seal remover tool No. J36467, or equivalent.

CAUTION: Keep parts in order so that they can be installed in their original positions during assembly.

ASSEMBLY
1. Install valve component parts.

NOTE: Always use new valve oil seals. Service and Repair

2. Before installing valve oil seal, install valve spring seat.





3. Install outer valve spring (uneven pitch type) with its narrow pitch side toward cylinder head side.
4. After installing valve components, tap valve stem tip with plastic hammer to assure a proper fit.
