PURPOSE AND OPERATION
The valve timing control system is utilized to increase engine performance. Intake valve opening and closing time is controlled, according to the engine operating conditions, by the Engine Control Module (ECM). Engine coolant temperature signals, engine speed, amount of intake air, throttle position and gear position are used to determine intake valve timing.

The intake camshaft pulley position is regulated by oil pressure, which is controlled by the valve timing control solenoid valve.
