Fuel Pump Control System

Fuel Pump Control Input/output:

PURPOSE
The Engine Control Module (ECM) controls the grounding of the Fuel Pump Relay to control Fuel Pump output.

OPERATION
During starting, the ECM activates the fuel pump directly for several seconds to pressurize the fuel system and improve starting. Once the engine has started and the ECM is receiving inputs from the Camshaft Position Sensor 120° signal, the ECM will regulate the ground circuit of the Fuel Pump Relay. If the 120° signal is not received when the ignition switch is on, the engine stalls. The ECM stops pump operation and prevents the battery from discharging, thereby improving safety. The ECM does not directly drive the fuel pump. It controls the ON/OFF fuel pump relay, which in turn controls the fuel pump.
