Removal






TIMING BELT COMPONENTS

CAUTION:
a. Do not bend or twist timing belt.
b. After removing timing belt, do not turn crankshaft and camshaft separately because valves will strike piston heads.
c. Make sure that timing belt, camshaft sprocket, crankshaft sprocket and belt tensioner are clean and free from oil and water.
d. Installation should be carried out when engine is cold.

REMOVAL
1. Jack up the vehicle front and support with safety stand.
2. Remove engine under covers and drain engine coolant from radiator.
3. Remove front R.H. wheel and engine side cover.
4. Remove the following belts.
- Alternator drive belt
- Power steering drive belt
- Compressor drive belt






5. Loosen crankshaft pulley bolt.






6. Remove crank pulley with a suitable puller.
7. Remove radiator upper hose and water inlet hose.
8. Remove compressor drive belt idler bracket.
9. Remove water pump pulley.
10. Remove front upper and lower belt covers.

Timing Belt Alignment Marks:






11. Set No 1 piston at T.D.C. on its compression stroke by rotating crankshaft.
- Align punch-mark on L.H. camshaft sprocket with punch-mark on timing belt upper rear cover.
- Align punch-mark on crankshaft sprocket with notch on oil pump housing.
- Temporarily install crank pulley bolt on crankshaft so that crankshaft can be rotated.

Loosening Tensioner Pulley:






12. Loosen timing belt tensioner nut, turn tensioner, then remove timing belt.
