Manual Transmission
Throttle Sensor:
PURPOSE
To provide the Engine Control Module (ECM) with a voltage signal that corresponds to the opening angle of the throttle.
OPERATION
The Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) has both a potentiometer (sensor) and a Soft Closed Throttle Position Switch (CTP). The TPS transforms the throttle position into output voltage and emits this voltage signal to the ECM. In addition, the sensor detects the opening and closing speed of the throttle valve and feeds that voltage signal to the ECM.
Idle position of the throttle valve is determined by the ECM receiving the signal from the TPS. This system is called "soft closed throttle position switch". This switch controls engine operation such as fuel cut.
