SERVICE INFORMATION
If a 1995 240SX exhibits any symptoms of overheating, it may be due to insufficient bleeding of the cooling system. It is not necessary to replace cooling system parts for this incident. The procedure below outlines bleeding the air from the cooling system. If any vehicle still exhibits overheating after performing the procedure, please contact the Nissan TECH-LINE for assistance.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Perform a visual inspection of the cooling system. Look for signs of leakage, spilled coolant, loose hose clamps, etc. and correct as necessary.
2. Ensure that engine and radiator are cold. If the engine is hot, let it cool before proceeding. Remove the radiator cap and check the coolant levels in the radiator and the reservoir tank. (The radiator should be full to the overflow tube and the reservoir tank should be full to within one inch of the maximum line.)
3. If the coolant level is low in either location, fill to the specified level using a 50/50% new coolant/water mixture.
4. Re-install the radiator cap.
5. Start the engine. Set the heater control to the "Full Hot" position.
6. Run the engine at idle for 30 seconds.
7. Bring the engine to 3,000 RPM and run for 5 minutes with transmission in Park or Neutral.
Any vehicle that completes step 7 with a normal mid point temperature gauge reading is O.K.
If the temperature gauge goes up beyond the mid-point (Normal gauge reading), or if the radiator begins to lose coolant to the reservoir tank, shut the engine off. In this case, continue with step 8 below.
8. Stop the engine. Do not remove the radiator cap. Allow I hour for cool down.
9. After cool down, check the radiator and reservoir tank levels. If necessary, fill the radiator to the top and the reservoir tank to just below the maximum line using a 50/50% mixture of new coolant. Always pre-mix coolant in a separate container before adding to a vehicle.
10. Re-test the vehicle starting at step 5, if the temperature gauge went past the mid-way point or the radiator lost coolant to the reservoir tank. Only re-test once. If overheating still occurs, call the Nissan TECH-LINE for assistance.
