Service Procedure

1. Write down the customer's radio station presets on a piece of note paper and place it with the R.O. for use when completing the service.

2. Open the hood.

3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

4. Remove the upper steering column cover.

5. Remove the lower steering column cover and the 2 bolts for the steering column.

6. Remove the combination meter cluster lid.

7. Remove the combination meter from the instrument panel.





8. Remove the vinyl tape on the diode assemblies and take out the diode with the Yellow/Green and Yellow/Brown wires. Refer to Service Manual page EL-194 connector M26, M27, M66.

NOTE:
Some vehicles will be fitted with a single diode, while others have a cluster of three, depending on the level of options. For single diode vehicles, change that diode. For three diode vehicles, change the diode with "Yellow" wires as stated previously.





9. Remove the diode by lifting up the locking tab on the connector as shown.





10. Install the diode replacement into the connector until it is locked by the locking tab. The diode replacement is identified by either one or two white paint dots as shown.

NOTE:
If the lock tab is broken during removal, use a small piece of electrical tape to secure the diode replacement in the connector.

11. Connect the combination meter to the harness and set in place in the dash. Do not install the hold down screws at this time.

12. Temporarily connect the negative battery cable.





13. Disconnect the electrical connector on the brake master cylinder.





14. To insure that the circuit is operating properly, short the terminals of the connector using a small piece of wire or suitable tool.

CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage the terminals.

15. Release the hand brake, start engine and observe warning lamp. If the brake warning lamp illuminates when the engine is running, the circuit is good.

NOTE:
The hand brake must be fully released to perform this test correctly.

16. Stop engine and disconnect the negative battery cable.

17. Remove the tool installed in step # 14 from the brake master cylinder connector and reinstall connector onto the brake master cylinder.

18. Remove the combination meter from the dash.

19. Tape the diode connectors to the main harness.

20. Reinstall the combination meter.

21. Reinstall the meter cluster lid.

22. Reinstall the steering column bolts. Torque to 9-13 ft.lb. (13-18, 1.3-1.8) (N-m, kg-m)

23. Reinstall the upper and lower steering column covers.

24. Reinstall the negative battery cable.

25. Close the hood.

26. Program the radio station presets that were recorded earlier and reset the clock tot he correct time.
